Yukon Territory
Stories and tales about fishing, history, nature and wildlife

Yukon "The land of magic and the mystery"
The Yukon Territory covers about 483.450 square kilometers, of which only one percent is inland water and more then half is wooded.

Tincup Wilderness Lodge: Catch me if you can?

One of the greatest challenges I first encountered in the Yukon was that of catching the plentiful, yet exclusive species of whitefish. Over the years, my passion for grayling in Europe put me in frequent contact with whitefish. Eventually, I developed an interest in them too, and, later, discovered several tips and techniques for landing a healthy of percentage of these spirited fighters.

Wolf Lake Wilderness Lodge

Wolf Lake is located in the deep wilderness of Canada's Yukon Territories. The lodge itself is surrounded by breathtaking scenery with an abundance of wildlife that matches the incredible fishing.

The Klondike Gold Rush  and The Klondike Goldrush: Timeline
After finding Kate and George Carmack, Skookum Jim and the others were fishing in the Klondike River. It was July when veteran fold-seeker Robert Henderson approached the group and told Carmack about some good prospects he had found on Gold Bottom Creek in the Klondike River Valley.

Tincup Wilderness Lodge: Inconnu (the unknown whitefish)
Their fighting behavior is completely different from lake trout and pike so when the long sink tip line went to the surface with and unbelievable speed you know that it must be the inconnu that took the fly.

Inconnu Lodge
When Tammy and Ina returned, their story was amazing! It definitely was a once in a lifetime trip. It was a beautiful day, in spite of the rather cloudy weather. Ina and Tammy hiked from one mountaintop to the next, which was sometimes rather strenuous. Their effort was well rewarded, because once they reached the tops, the scenery was just spectacular! One of the highlights was a mountaintop gourmet lunch, complete with red and white wine!

Tincup Lodge: A month in the Yukon (two years on a row)
Another time, while hiking toward this lake, the same shore bird again began its alarm call. That was surprising, because we were still quite a distance away from the lake and the bird could not have seen us. But as we walked around one of the hills we ran into a young grizzly bear, coming in the opposite direction. That explained the bird ’s alarm call!

Lucky the Bald Eaglet
We carefully walked closer, but the eaglet made no reaction until I touched it. He moved his wings into an awkward position, and it looked as if they might have been broken, but after a closer look, he seemed okay. We didn't know what to do.

Robert Service
Robert Service is just one of the renowned authors to have helped glamorize the Yukon by creating legends of the Klondike through his poetry.

Spell of the Yukon
I wanted the gold, and I sought it, I scrabbled and mucked like a slave. Was it famine or scurvy -- I fought it; I hurled my youth into a grave. I wanted the gold, and I got it -- Came out with a fortune last fall, -- Yet somehow life's not what I thought it, And somehow the gold isn't all.
