Nature & Music

MATTHEW LIEN
Its
the power of wilderness that feeds the power of this music |
 |
Matthew draws considerable inspiration for his work from the
natural world. Yukon's awesome wilderness inspires a great
many of Matthew's compositions. He said: When I am out there
in such pristine wilderness, I find myself experiencing a dual
motion. One is absolute awe and a deep love for this land. The
other is a profound concern for the well being of these wild
spaces. To watch a grizzly bear climb up a sleep 500 foot
embankment in a matter of seconds. Yet in the face of the
coming tide of development, this majestic animal is totally
defenseless. As that bear looked down at me from the top of a
slope, I saw both a powerful animal, and a being as vulnerable
as a child. These are the feelings I attempt to convey with
this music.
I know where he is talking about. I have been introduced to
Matthew's music in the Yukon. Not in a pub nor any public
place but in the real wilderness. Standing at the veranda of
the lodge gaze along the lake and listening to this wonderful
music. Now back home I close my eyes and listen to his music
again. It let me feel close with nature and bring back all my
holiday memories. I feel the grizzly that was chasing me and
still respect his aggressive attempt. I hear the cry of loon
and the feel the wind from the wings of eagle when he seduced
me to left him my catch.
