Abel Super Series

This reel is just awesome. For anyone who loves fine equipment I only can say just have a look and feel how wonderful it is to hold it in your hand. The ABEL super is a great reel for saltwater and if you can afford it, you never would regret it. It's a solid, durable reel that you let you interchange spools with the Abel big game spools, which makes it a very versatile reel and reduce costs quite a bit too. The reel matches perfectly to my Spey rods but so far I mainly use it for my single-handed rods. As with all the Abel reels, it looks a bit difficult at first to change spools because there is a nut to hold the drag knob in place, but after many months in use it actually proves to be a great system. I don’t change spools often so for me there is actually no problem at all. The nut is just added to secure the drag knob and pin for not falling out of the reel. When used to it, you will see that it is actually very easy to change spools. The Abel super is my first choice for steelhead, salmon, large lake trout and catching pacific salmon in saltwater. The drag is very smooth at all ranges and never sticks or fails at all conditions, wet or dry. Even the Abel Super 5 can handle extremely large lake trout (up to 40LBS) with ease and surely is one of the finest reels I have ever used. All the reels seems to have a large overkill for trout. The large arbor and wooden handle is a great feature that helps to pick up line off the water quickly.

The  8 sizes of Large Arbor, fast retrieve reels within the Super Series are to standard fly reels as your old Chevy is to a new Corvette. Reels are ported or ventilated using a "rounded oblong" design that maintains total strength and rigidity in the metal while, at the same time, looking like a Stealth bomber, Rolex watch or Ferrari sports car. They are the lightest available. The weight reduction was accomplished by intense machining, with parts literally trimmed to the bone, yet retaining all of our traditional strength and integrity.

Super 2 Model

2- 3- and 4-weight lines. The Super 2 interchanges with the Pt. 5.

A remarkable achievement in both design and engineering, at just 4.2 ounces, this is the reel for big fish in Spring Creek situations. An ideal companion on your next Alaska or Canada trip for dry fly grayling after dinner.

Super 4 Model

4- and 5-weight lines. The Super 4 interchanges with the #1.

At just 5.5 ounces this is the quintessential high-speed Large Arbor reel. Hang one on a classic cane or space age graphite rod whether fishing the Au Sable or Hot Creek.

Super 5 Model

5- and 6-weight lines. The Super 5 interchanges with the #2.

A 5/6 that will stop a Yellowstone or Yellow Breeches brown in its tracks. Only 5.7 ounces, it balances beautifully with your favorite trout rod.

Super 6 Model

6- and 7-weight lines. The Super 6 interchanges with the 3N.

At 6.9 ounces, this and the Super 8 are the workhorses of the series. It's for big Montana trout, bonefish, or Rogue River half-pounders, and windy conditions when you need the punch of a 6- or 7-weight.

Super 8 Model

8- and 9-weight lines. The Super 8 interchanges with the #3.

Just 8.1 ounces, this is the clearly defined weapon for bonefish, blues, redfish, seatrout, bonito, Sierra mackerel, salmon, inconnu and dream steelhead.

Abel reel capacities

All backing unless otherwise indicated is with 20# or 30# white Micron. To determine the greater backing capacity with either 50-pound Spectra or SpiderWire, increase the capacity 60% when substituting for 20# Micron, 100% for 30# Micron. Remember that the various colors of Micron have different diameters. White is the thinnest, followed by yellow and the thickest, chartreuse. S.A. white Dacron backing is 10-15% smaller diameter than white Micron.
All reels were tested with Weight Forward (WF) floating lines except for the 4N which is with a WF-S Tarpon Line. Double Taper (DT) lines will take approximately 10% less backing. Sinking lines will take about 10% more backing.
Backing capacity will also vary slightly depending on the amount of tension used when the spool is loaded with line.
