FLY-FISHING IN
YORKSHIRE
It is still possible to locate the exact spots described more
than a hundred years ago when a good fish was taken and
capture recorded in one of their books. For me it was a
unbelievable experience to walk in the footsteps of those
great fishermen.
PIKE FISHING
Pike fishing can be a fantastic sport, and fly fishing for
pike is a great alternative when the trout fishing has been
closed. Pike are very strong fish, sometimes making
spectacular jumps out of the water when hooked. They often
take the fly with unbelievable speed and violence.
SLOVENIA (will
I met with difficult fishing in Belgium and France many times, and
in the past few years in Slovenia sometimes too. Here I fished in
the area around the village of Most na Soci, ideal operating base
for a trip to the fascinating Soca, princess of the mountains, and
her fantastic tributary Idrijca.
Let's go fishing - with Glenda Powell
To see a
fisherman perfectly mastering a double-handed fly rod is
rare enough. When the fisherman turns out to be a woman,
we are in the realm of the exceptional. It was on the
banks of the river Blackwater in southeast Ireland that we
met Glenda Powell. She teaches the art of salmon fishing
with talent.
Sweet surprise (a
great Croatian story by Mislav
Jukic)
Most of the fishermen I know have a creek like this somewhere
in their lives. It's not big, it's not great, it's not famous,
and therein lies its charm. It's an ordinary trout and
grayling stream, where fly fishing can be a casual affair,
rather than "the adventure of a lifetime." It's the place
where, for once, I feel like I'm at home.
Fly Fishing for Pike
(a very nice story by Ad Swier)
I have been fly fishing for pike for quite a number of years now. About 27
years or so, I think. I've caught a few over the years, and I think, to be
honest, that pike is an overlooked fish by many fly fishermen, especially
in the UK, Scotland and Ireland. Fly fishing for pike is overlooked by
even more anglers!
